QMplus Updates Post Upgrade – 27th August

14 July 2015 Posted in: Announcements, Articles, News Tagged: , By: Alysa Bramble

On Tuesday the 25th August, now Thursday, 27th August 2015, between 7am-9am, there will be an update applied to QMplus. This update will fix issues and add some new functionality.

Due to a network upgrade being carried out at ULCC (our service providers), we have had to move the updates for August from the 25th to the 27th. QMplus will experience some unavoidable disruption during this time but we aim to keep disruption to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience.

The following plugins or issues are work in progress, currently being reviewed with the intention of being implemented or fixed for 27th August 2015.

Known Issues

  1. GRADES AREA – max points value and sum of grade. An issue has been identified as part of the 2.8.5 version of Moodle – if a change is/was made to the way a grade should be calculated and displayed, this change is no longer reflected in 2.8.5, whereas it was in previous versions. See the Moodle Tracker pages for more detail. Status at time of upgrade: Moodle headquarters have been working on this and will release a fix as part of version 2.8.7, sometime in July. Once deployed, the IT Services and E-Learning teams will test this fix, and if successful, this will be deployed in August to QMplus.
  2. GRADES AREA – grade history. This is a new feature in version 2.8 (more detail), however during testing it was uncovered that on courses with a large number of users, the system hangs when staff click on the ‘select users’ option. Status 11th August: This feature will be disabled in August as no fix has been identified.
  3. GRADES AREA – Frozen columns. A new feature of the upgrade is that the first 2 columns with the students names has been frozen so that you can scroll through the gradebook and still see the names of the students on the left. However, when you ‘Turn Editing On’ you sometimes lose the functionality. Status 11th August: No fix has been identified for August release.
  4. Manual Login link – redirects to log into standard QMUL shibboleth authentication. This is being looked into for an August fix. Manual login users can login via this link: https://qmplus.qmul.ac.uk/login/index.php?authShib=NOSHIB
  5. Youtube repository no longer working (https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=313259#p1254284) – this is fixed in version 2.8.7
  6. MassAction plugin – cannot add to QMUL themes. This is a new plugin (more detail), however during testing it was identified that this functionality could not be added to QMUL themes. Status 11th August: This will be released in August release.
  7. My CPD Block in QMplus Hub – does not open in a separate page. This is being looked into for an August fix.
  8. HTML Atto editor – cannot be expanded to full screen. Status: This is being looked into for an August fix. An expand to full screen icon has been added to the ATTO editor, however we will be switching back to the old Tiny MCE editor as the default editor in the August release.
  9. HTML Atto Editor – removes comments and other HTML. Status: There is no solution at this current time, but the issue is being looked into for a potential August fix. We will be switching back to the old Tiny MCE editor as the default editor in the August release.
  10. Landing Page HTML and Twitter issues. Status: Users will have to remove and re-add the Twitter feed.
  11. New Grid Format – text appearing at the top. The word “General’ appears at the top of the page.
  12. Automated student account creation – SITS integration issue resulting in student accounts not being created automaticallyStatus: This has been resolved as an emergency fix.
  13. Reply to forum posts via email. Status: this is currently not working as expected. This requires further investigation and involvement with the QMUL infrastruture team; this will not be ready in time for the August release.
  14. Gap Fill quiz type – Loss of subscript (for formulae). Status: this is currently not working as expected. This requires further investigation and involvement with the QMUL infrastructure team; this will not be ready in time for the August release.

Potential Functionality

  1. Evasys pluginStatus 11th August: More testing required. Will not be enabled in the August release.
  2. Turning Point (Clickers) pluginStatus 11th August: To be installed and piloted with SBCS.
  3. Merge Users pluginStatus 11th August: To be released in August.
  4. Adaptive Quiz pluginStatus 11th August: Will not be released in August.
  5. Course Awards pluginStatus 11th August: Will not be released in August.
  6. Course Meta Data – SITS to QMplus. This is a new piece of in house development that will allow teachers and administrative staff to be able to easily copy the course details that is already in SITS to their QMplus course areas. Status 11th August: To be released in August.

2014/14 QMplus Archive

Known Issues

  1. Assignments – student submissions. Students are still able to submit assignments onto the archive if no due date or cut off date has been set, and the assignment allows late submissions. Status: You will still be able to see when the student submitted (date and time), but we cannot switch off the ability for students to submit assignments sitewide on the archive. If you do not wish student to submit to the course area on the archive site, please set a cut off date, or switch the assignment settings so that it does not allow late submissions. Status: We are currently working on fixing this issue.
  2. Button/Link back to the live site. Currently there is no link back to the live site from the archive.
  3. The front page of the Archive requires some updates to the theme and there are links/icons missing. Status: We are currently working on fixing this issue.
