Online session – Getting started with Q-Review

09 March 2015 09.00am

As part of our continuing program to diversify the ways in which we offer e-learning development opportunities to QMUL staff, during March we will be running an online version of our “Getting Started with Q-Review” session.

Instead of attending a 2 hour session in our E-Learning Studio, participants will join a course delivered via QMplus. The course will take place over two weeks but the amount of effort required is still 2 hours. The course will open on Monday the 9th March and finish on Friday 20th March. Across the period of two weeks, a member of the E-Learning Unit will lead the course and we will be covering the basics of the Q-Review lecture capture system through a variety of different online activities. The activities are designed to be short so that you do not need to commit a large amount of time in any day. 2 hours over 10 working days equates to 12 minutes a day. Hopefully this is something that people will be able to fit into their work schedule fairly easily.

We are hoping that this will provide a flexible and enjoyable way to learn about our lecture capture system. We really want you to see all the great things you can do with Q-Review which aren’t limited to recording lectures in lecture theatres. Participating will have the added benefit of finding out what it is like to learn online with QMplus, there might be some useful ideas there too.

Attendance on an online course has the same weight as attending one of our face-to-face sessions. Participating on the online version of “Getting Started with Q-Review” will count as 2 hours of professional development.

How to sign up

If you’d like to sign up to join the course, please email us on elearning@qmul.ac.uk. If you are not sure whether it’s for you then drop us an email and we can chat about it.

Some questions that you might have

Why the time limit? Can I not just do the course at my own pace?

We have decided to try running the course in this format as we want to try to keep some of the benefits of a face-to-face session, primarily the ability to interact with both the course leader and with other participants. In order to achieve this, we have to run the course across a set time frame rather than allowing people to start and finish when they like. Also, the fixed time frame may provide more of an incentive to complete the course.

Do I need to be online at particular times?

Although the course has a fixed duration, you are not expected to be online at any particular time. You will be interacting with us and the other participants, asynchronously, meaning you can choose when you want to take part.

What will I need?

As we are delivering the course via QMplus, you will need a computer with internet access in order to participate. For this particular course, it would also be useful for you to either have headphones or to be in a space where you can listen through speakers.
