Distance Teaching at Queen Mary: Opportunities & Challenges

Online session – Getting started with Q-Review

During March we will be running an online version of our “Getting Started with Q-Review” session. Participants will join a course delivered via QMplus. The course will take place over two weeks but the amount of effort required is still 2 hours. The course will open on Monday 9th March and finish on Friday 20th March. Across the period of two weeks, a member of the E-Learning Unit will lead the course and we will be covering the basics of the Q-Review lecture capture system through a variety of different online activities. QMplus Update

An update will be released to QMplus between 7am-9am on Tuesday 24th February. This update is provided by our external service providers and is part of regular maintenance of the system.

On Tuesday 31st March, between 7am-9am, there will be an update released to QMplus. During this March’s update we plan to release a host of new features and system configuration changes based on QMplus phase 3 development work. Go to this page for more information.

QMplus Media

We are going to launch a media server solution for QMUL on 31st March. This service will:

• allow uploading and streaming of videos via QMplus without any additional login
• allow videos to be uploaded using iOS and Android devices directly to QMplus courses
• allow streaming of videos on all major devices (mobile, tablet and computers)
• ensure the security of confidential and/or sensitive media content
• enable the delivery of multimedia content to low bandwidth locations, particularly to international distance-learning students

‘All university degree assessments should be computer marked’

This year’s Teaching and Learning Conference explored the connections between teaching and research, showcasing innovation and good practice in teaching and learning at QMUL. As a part of this conference, a debate session pitted Professor Susan Dilly (Vice-Principal for Student Experience) against Professor Wayne Morrison (School of Law) to debate the motion, ‘This house believes that all university degree assessments should be computer marked’.
