Here is the E-Learning Unit Newsletter for July 2015. We hope you find this month’s articles useful.

QMplus Upgraded, Now what?

QMplus was successfully upgraded last week and we have compiled a list of known issues that we are working on fixing for the 25th August release. There are some particular issues around the grades area, please review this page for more information. This list will be updated with any new items that are uncovered.

Furthermore, the 2014/15 archive is now available. Students have read-only access, and teaching staff will have full access until early November. The Course Rollover block is now available for administrators on the live QMplus site. Administrators can refer to the Rollover guide for help with this process.

Q-Review Update

On Tuesday, 18th August, 2015 we will be making a change to the default security settings in Q-Review as a result of requests from the user community. This change will mean that all Q-Review recordings will now require a QMUL username and password in order to view the recording, unless otherwise requested.

Recordings from the ELU event – What’s Changing in QMplus

On Wednesday 24th June 2015, the we ran our annual summer event “What’s changing in QMplus”, the event this year covered much more than just the QMplus summer upgrade. We have put together some pages on QMplus Hub to pull together the recordings of the event along with extra resources that we hope you will find useful. You will need to log in using your college account to see this page.

Case Study – Using a QMplus landing page to communicate information to students

A QMplus Landing page was created by QMUL Careers to –

  • showcase and raise awareness of the range of support and resources available through Careers & Enterprise
  • improve accessibility and the user experience by providing a single point of access to unite materials previously held in different locations.

Featured Tool – Screen Capture using QMplus Media

QMplus Media has a free Google Chrome extension that allows users to capture video from their screen, webcam, any desktop window or the entire screen. When the video is complete it can easily be uploaded to QMplus Media and added to QMplus module/course areas.

Upcoming staff development opportunities

In order to help staff prepare for the next academic year we are running a number of sessions in September before the majority of teaching begins.  These include:

  • Getting started with QMplus aimed at those new to the online learning environment
  • Drop-in sessions for QMplus Landing page owners
  • Beginner and advanced quiz sessions for those who want to make use of the quiz activity in their modules
  • Creating and marking assignments covering how to set up assignments and how to provide grades and feedback to students
  • Getting started with video in teaching with QMplus Media for those who want to know how to get the best out of our new media server
  • E-portfolios, group work and networking with QMplus Hub for those interested in making use of our recently revamped “groups and portfolios” part of Qmplus

Please see our online course booking system for details of dates and times and to book yourself a place.  We will also be running drop-in sessions during September for those who have specific issues they’d like help with.  We will advertise the dates and times for these via our website. If you can’t see what you need, get in touch with us on elearning@qmul.ac.uk.  Also, if you are interested in us delivering bespoke sessions for your team/department, please get in touch as soon as possible.
